Collections

The following University of Newcastle institutions and associated private individuals have made collections available to the SINE Project for assessment and potential digitisation: the Museum of Antiquities; the Hatton Gallery; the School of Arts and Cultures; Professor Norman McCord; Dr Stafford M Linsley; Grace McCombie and John Fleming.

The following demonstrates how elements of these collections illustrate the key themes of the project:

Relevant Collections

Construction and Demolition

Elements of the Fleming collection depict the post 1960s decline of the railway infrastructure throughout the North East and also an element of regeneration with the construction of the Metro rail network.

Industries of the North

The Stafford Linsley Collection concentrates heavily on industrial archaeology in the region. This is complemented by a number of aerial images from the Museum of Antiquities' Norman McCord Collection and a number of artistic images from the Hatton Gallery collections depicting mining structures and quayside industrial scenes.

Public Monuments
of the North East

Some of the collections contain images of public monuments, memorials and sculptures of the North East.

The Social History
of Newcastle

There are elements within all the collections which reflect the social history of the city.

Archaeology

A number of collections from the University's Museum of Antiquities illustrate the region's outstanding archaeological heritage.
